JIM BUTTON,

Doug Says Nice Words

Doug is one of those true longtime friends that has no hesitation to call anyone out for anything; usually done in a caustic sarcastic way.. He’s truly a softy but for him to say something nice is worthy of getting it in the blog for posterity, just so I can say ‘remember that time you said that nice thing about me?’

Love you Doug, and thanks for saying that nice thing about me.

Hey Gather With Jim

Here is my Guest Blog if you choose to add it…If not, you are an idiot.

 Either way here it is.

Title “Because That What Hero’s Do…..”

 Guest Blogger – Doug Gillespie

 Hey Jim

I usually don’t give you props for the things you do…Mostly because I think I am better than you. But as I sat watching Thor last night, it came to me that you are Thor. A weak, pale-faced version of him, but you are a version of Thor nonetheless.

One of Thor’s tag line is “Because that’s what heros do”

Here’s the story

As we rolled into our Kayaks, about ready to jump onto the Bow River on Saturday, you casually mentioned that you had just finished another round of Chemo. You say it in such a “Matter of fact” way that most people don’t clue in on it. I also guarantee that most people do not know what Chemo does to people. But there you were, ready to go for a 2 Hour paddle with my family.

About 1 hr in, you decided to take a more challenging route that my son and wife took with you. My daughter and I took the safer way. I come around the bend to see my son in the frigid water after tipping; for those reading this, my son is 6’2”, 270lbs.

I can't leave my daughter to help as she is a novice kayaker, and if she flips, we would be in real trouble. So who jumps in to help….Chemo Jim. All 115lbs of him. He orchestrates a rescue in fast-moving water and pulls my son into his Kayak.

Why? Because that’s what heros do.

We have lots of laughs and move on to finish the paddle. Not 15 min later, my wife flips her Kayak, and who has to jump in to rescue her? Old pale Skinny Jim. Why? Because that’s what heros do.

Finally, he paddles over to my daughter, who is freaking out a bit, and calms her down.

We get to shore safe and sound and have a good laugh. When we look at Jim, he is starting to bruise up a bit on his arms due to the rescues. So what does Jim say…Ouch those are going to be bad. We then proceed to have lunch with us a brewery nearby.

Why? Because thats what heros do…

I challenge the statement on your blog. You Gather Friends – I think you gather and you keep friends by doing the things you do everyday. I think you call it a “Purpose”

For the people reading this blog, I thought it would be good to know how Jimmy lives his life, no matter what shape he is in.

 Full speed ahead Jimmy
