Aging

Adjustments.jpeg

A week ago I shaved my beard on our ‘In the Neighbourhood’ show, Dave took his lid down to the wood, and together over $1,500 was raised for Kids Cancer Care.

I hadn’t shaved my beard since I was diagnosed with cancer close to six years ago. So shaving it meant something, hence the fundraiser.

And I’m still not sure I like it but I’m giving it some time to figure it out.

What did shock me was how I’d aged in the last six years. When I shaved it I was struck with my resemblance to my Mom. That was a good thing but nonetheless I was still taken aback.

Most of us don’t see our aging take place in a single moment, we age over time and don’t see the nuances of change.

As soon as the beard was gone I noticed my cheeks had dropped and the early stages of jowel development had begun. So while I sense I look younger without the beard I personally saw six years flash in front of my eyes.

Usually I’ve been celebrating aging as a grand prize, but dang this one caught me by surprise.

Don’t worry though, I’m still quite immature.
