We’re falling off the edge of the world!!

It’s an apocalypse!!

The world is in the throes of a global pandemic. Thousands of people are dying daily. The world is either on fire or flooding due to environmental ignorance. The racial injustice has finally hit a peak. The worlds economy is in dire straits. Schools are opening, businesses are closing. And there are MURDER HORNETS!!

How can I pass this horrible deck of cards on to my kids. This is the worst generation ever!

Or is it?

If you can, step back, breathe deeply and refocus. I think you may find you will instantly feel better. It works for me all the time.

If you look at this through a positive lens you may just find that this may be a time of transformation. A long overdue reset.

All that is going on is extremely tumultuous and could simply be the chaos brought about prior to much needed change. The chaos is all a part of the process and will certainly get worse before it gets better.

I know this will sound cliche but it’s like the metamorphosis from caterpillar to butterfly.

One day, the caterpillar stops eating, hangs upside down from a twig or leaf and spins itself a silky cocoon or molts into a shiny chrysalis. Within its protective casing, the caterpillar radically transforms its body, eventually emerging as a butterfly

Within the chrysalis the old body parts of the caterpillar are undergoing a remarkable transformation, called 'metamorphosis,' to become the beautiful parts that make up the butterfly that will emerge.

I can only imagine the metamorphosis isn’t simple by any imagination. But it’s been done so many times that we accept the radical outcome.

So why can’t we see this as a radical moment of positive change?

We are in the midst of this transformation and we need to understand that while it’s difficult it is also necessary to make our world a better place.

Looking at it through a positive lens allows you to understanding the racial inequality is real and these are necessary steps.

Through this Covid pause we are seeing some benefits to our environmental challenges - they say the dolphins have returned to the Bow River and there real examples like this all over the world. This is opening our eyes and minds to the real possibility that can clean up our act.

Covid-19 is also enlightening us to the idea that family and friends are a priority where unnecessary consumerism isn’t. I see more families in parks, i see kids riding bikes, I see people talking to each other again, and I see most people realizing they have a deeper appreciation of a well lived life.

While the economy is faltering right now I am hopeful it brings to light and creates the necessary changes towards a more fair and equitable society.

I am not naive to all the negativity that exists, nor am I oblivious to the magnitude of change and effort needed to make these issues better, but I am aware that the direction you go is dependent on the lens you choose to look at this through.

If we all believe that this is leading to a positive outcome at the other side of the equation then the odds are much better that our metamorphosis will be completed.

But if you think this is the end then you will certainly take steps to push the outcome that way. And who knows what would happen within the chrysalis and how this crazy time may get worse than it already is.

The more we can get people to visualize a better world the more likely they will be to make better steps towards this collective outcome.

Maybe what works for me will work for you and if it works for you maybe those around you may sense the ripple and align their thinking.

So, if you can, step back, breathe deeply and refocus. Do that and maybe all this chaos will turn out to be the reset we all needed and wanted.
